I have been told there is no writer
Who in violent action shined brighter
Than Cormac McCarthy, but I admit
If this true, I have not discovered it;
Born the year the 20th century was born
Was American in that sense with scorn
Of restlessness, to be an unknown 
And rugged to caricature, a stone
The New York Times skipped alone.
